Greig Detering

Greig was born and raised in a rural area north of Eugene, Oregon.

His parents owned and managed a 3rd generation fruit and vegetable farm. There he learned the meaning of hard work and diligence.

His parents made sure he was involved with church activities. He even accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at age 12. But he drifted away from God in his high school years.

Always fascinated by new and better ways of doing things, Greig pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering specializing in Biomedical Engineering and graduated from Oregon Statue University in 1982.

Because there were no biomed jobs down south, where he was determined to go, he took a job with Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. There he worked as a classified project design engineer for over 2 years.

Still wanting an even hotter and drier climate where he could enjoy almost year round water sports, he then moved to Phoenix, Arizona. There he worked for what came to be Lucent Technologies Inc. as a telecom designer, manager and marketer for 16 years. He primarily designed and developed leading edge projects like the telecom feature know as caller ID. Almost everyone attacked this product as a feature that would not be wanted or needed and was generally looked upon as evil.

Looking back, he realizes that even before he was serving God, the Lord was preparing him for a leading edge prophetic ministry, which would bring those same kinds of sentiments to any suggested leading edge direction changes for the church. During most of this time, Greig was buried in his career and occasional fun, but did not think much about submitting to the God he was raised learning about.

In 1997, almost age 40, Greig began to think once again about the meaning of life and any purpose to it.

As his Creator would have it, shortly after Greig began contemplating life, in May 1997; Greig suffered a minor brain malady called a ‘pontine’ hemorrhage that caused big symptoms like temporary loss of feeling in most of the right side of his body. No surgery was required, but he spent several weeks away from work with lots of time to really contemplate life and who created it.

He remembered during this time how he was convicted at many points of his life that a designer must have created the world and mankind.

Taking advanced biology classes, and learning about the complexity of DNA, and the mechanics of the cell, a machine more advanced than anything man has ever developed, was one of those convicting times.

While spending most of his time on the couch during his recovery, Greig had lots of time to watch TV. He happened to turn on some Christian programming and see some miraculous stuff and hear some testimonials that challenged his logic. He then began to dig into the Bible, which he had discounted as non reliable in earlier years.

After a short time of intense seeking, it became obvious to Greig that this God of the Bible lives outside time, created and set the laws of the physical universe, and indeed holds our lives in his hands. He responded by doing the only reasonable thing. In June of 1997, He surrendered his life to following Jesus Christ completely.

Greig’s new commitment to the Lord meant some big and uncomfortable changes, but he thanks the Lord every day for bringing him into a life of true fulfillment, joy, and adventure. He set his mind to following the leading of the Holy Spirit. He then began to experience the voice of God, in many ways, directing his life. This was all before ever entering a formal church building.

Church always had a negative connotation to Greig. But after walking with the Lord for awhile, he had a hunger to hang out with others with the same life perspective. He realized that, although the church is supposed to represent God, most of it does not look much like Him. Either way, God’s will was for him to be in fellowship with the rest of Christ’s body.

Greig could not contain the cool things he was seeing God do with and through him. He began inviting friends to his home, and soon was having regular meetings there. Everyone he met with is now a pillar Christian. Greig continued to grow in the Lord as the Spirit would lead him to conferences, ministries, books, meetings and the Basic Instructions before Leaving Earth (Bible). He was mostly used as an evangelist as he lead courses like the Alpha Course and worked with different types of ministries.

Greig promised the Lord that he would do whatever, whenever, and go whereever if He would make it clear to him.

While working as a consultant for AT&T in the year 2000, Greig was given clear visions like a television before his eyes of a place the Lord wanted Him to go. He saw a vision of the country of El Salvador, and later was given a clear mandate to go to a specific city there.

It was also made clear to him that he was to leave his job. He assumed that the Lord would send him to formal training, connect him to an organization, get him language training, etc.., but this was not to be. The order was to Just Go.

Nothing seemed to be very logical at the time, but looking back now, everything makes sense to him.

Greig left his very comfortable and well paying engineering career with no formal backing in September 2000, and was in El Salvador on November 1st.

He had no idea why he was going, only that the Lord was sending him as a prophet to the nations. After 3 days there, he heard, "I have called you here to unify my body". Greig had no idea what the Lord was asking. The Lord amazingly connected Greig to everyone he needed to be connected with.

He spent a year in El Salvador. There he learned to pray, pray, pray, move when the Holy Spirit said to move, then watch the Lord do the rest.

During the next 3 years, God gave him an experiential crash course on why the church doesn’t work together and what needs to be fixed that is preventing that from happening.

The Lord sent Greig to Argentina in 2002, which is still a primary base for the ministry.

At that time, some of Greig’s believer friends formed Amor Ministries International as a vehicle to aid him in what the Lord was leading him to do. He is blessed to have his best friend from first grade, and his primary pastor, Rodney Graham, leading the ministry.

Robert Johnson, someone who Greig grew up within 10 miles of but never met, was used to give him confirmations from the Lord, and now is his partner in much of the field ministry.

God has supernaturally connected several amazing people to work with Greig.

Over the last few years, Greig has been ministering in many nations primarily in the continents of South America, Europe and Australia

His primary work is as a prophet, or for a more modern word consultant, to help perfect the church so it may come to see itself as one in Christ with all believers.

Greig thanks the Lord daily for bringing him into his wonderful, joyful, adventurous, eternal Life!
